[ HOW TO READ THE CHART ]
Green Zone: Price above SMA 200 Daily → Bull market: long bias
Red Zone: Price below SMA 200 Daily → Bear market: short bias
Main Line: Golden Cross SMA 50/200 → Confirmed long-term bullish signal
Confluence: Combine SMA with EMA for maximum probability
[ WHAT TO WATCH ON THE CHART ]
Observe how SMA behaves relative to key price points. Note moments when the indicator reaches extreme levels and how price reacts. Look for divergence patterns between the indicator and price movement.
[ FORMULA ]
SMA(N) = (P1 + P2 + ... + PN) / N
P = closing price, N = number of periods
Each data point has identical weight: 1/N

What signals does SMA generate?

Price above SMA 200 Daily → Bull market: long bias
Price below SMA 200 Daily → Bear market: short bias
Golden Cross SMA 50/200 → Confirmed long-term bullish signal
Death Cross SMA 50/200 → Confirmed long-term bearish signal
SMA 200 retest as support with bounce and volume → High-probability long entry
SMA 200 break with close and re-test from below → Bearish confirmation

What is SMA and how does it work?

The Simple Moving Average is the oldest and most direct form of moving average. It simply calculates the arithmetic mean of the last N closing prices. Its simplicity is both its strength and weakness: it's easy to calculate mentally, but reacts slowly to price changes and gives the same weight to recent data and data from N periods ago. On high timeframes (Daily, Weekly, Monthly) this characteristic becomes an advantage: it filters noise and shows the long-term trend cleanly. SMA 50 and 200 on Daily are the most monitored averages by institutional funds, hedge funds and market makers: this makes them self-fulfilling levels with very high probability of respect.

How do you use SMA in trading?

SMA is mainly used on high timeframes where simplicity and high lag become advantages: 1) MACRO TREND FILTER: The golden rule: above SMA 200 = bull market, probability favors longs. Below SMA 200 = bear market, probability favors shorts. It seems trivial but has beaten the stock market over 50+ year periods when applied systematically. 2) GOLDEN CROSS AND DEATH CROSS: Golden Cross (SMA 50 crosses above SMA 200) = historic bullish signal. Every major bull market in the last 100 years has been accompanied by a Golden Cross. Death Cross (SMA 50 crosses below SMA 200) = bearish signal. It anticipated the 2008 crash (August 2008, 2 months before Lehman collapse), the 2018 crypto bear market, Covid (March 2020). WARNING: these signals are very late, so they're used as a macro filter and not as entry timing. 3) INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT AND RESISTANCE: SMA 200 on Daily is the most respected level in the market. In an uptrend, pullbacks to SMA 200 are bought by big players. The retest of SMA 200 from above, after a bullish break, is one of the most classic and reliable setups in stock trading. 4) SMA 50/200 SPREAD (also SMA 10/50): The percentage spread between the two SMAs indicates the 'distance' of the trend from its equilibrium level. Very high spread = extended market, correction risk. Spread near zero = imminent Golden/Death Cross.

What are the strengths of SMA?

Extremely simple to understand
SMA 200 is an institutional level with high probability of respect
Excellent on high timeframes
Golden/Death Cross has an excellent historical track record

What are the limitations of SMA?

Very lagging: gives equal weight to recent and old data
Useless on intraday and low timeframes
SMA gets 'violated' frequently during chop phases
