What signals does Keltner Channel generate?

Price above upper KC band → Strong bullish momentum in progress
BB inside KC → Active squeeze: explosive breakout imminent
BB exits KC with green histogram → Confirmed bullish breakout
BB exits KC with red histogram → Confirmed bearish breakout

What is Keltner Channel and how does it work?

Keltner Channel uses ATR to create volatility bands around an EMA. Unlike Bollinger Bands (which use standard deviation), KC uses ATR for the bands, making them more stable and less reactive to single anomalous moves. The KC + BB combination created one of the most famous trading setups: John Carter's 'Squeeze Momentum' (later popularized by the LazyBear indicator on TradingView). When BB enters inside KC, the market is in extreme compression.

How do you use Keltner Channel in trading?

Two main uses: 1) TREND IDENTIFICATION: Price above the upper KC band = strong bullish momentum (don't sell). Price below the lower KC band = strong bearish momentum. Price 'walks' outside the band in strong trends. 2) SQUEEZE MOMENTUM (the most powerful setup): Identify when BB is completely inside KC (active squeeze). At that moment the market is in maximum compression. When BB exits KC (squeeze release), a powerful move begins. The LazyBear indicator adds a momentum histogram to indicate the likely breakout direction.

What are the strengths of Keltner Channel?

More stable than BB (uses ATR instead of stddev)
The KC+BB Squeeze is one of the most reliable setups
Smoother and less reactive bands

What are the limitations of Keltner Channel?

Less known than BB — requires BB knowledge to use well
Like all MAs, lagging
