Support & Resistance
Support and resistance are the foundation of any technical analysis. They are the levels where price has reacted in the past and where it is likely to react again. They work because millions of traders look at the same charts and remember the same significant prices — creating a self-fulfilling prophecy — but, more importantly, because they are the levels where real institutional orders are stacked: stops, limits and breakout orders that create genuine supply and demand imbalances.
What Are Support and Resistance
The $100 level on AAPL is tested 5 times over the following months, bouncing each time. On the sixth test, many traders place their buy limit exactly at $100 — but the institutional buyer who was defending it is now fully loaded, so the sell-side overwhelms the bid and the level breaks. The level worked five times and failed on the sixth because the defending order was finally consumed.
